This section of the cycle trail starts 1km south of central Motueka on Old Wharf Road. Follow Old Wharf Road out to the coast before turning left onto Motueka Quay, and past the shipwrecked Janie Seddon.
This is a section to ride at a casual pace, take in the spectacular coastal scenery and spot wildlife.
The esplanade reserve is renowned by birders as an internationally significant place for estuary and sea birds including the majestic Kotuku.
Raumanuka Reserve is a historical site for local iwi and an amazing spot to see local bird life. The short walking tracks here are well worth doing.
A right turn takes you onto Lyndhurst Drive, over the Motueka River bridge, then right on to Lodder Lane and into the small settlement of Riwaka.
Riwaka has several options for food and drink. Ginger Dynamite and Hop Federation brewery are just a few hundred metres back along the main road off the cycle trail.
The trail goes through the Riwaka domain, with public toilet facilities.
