Trail Grades and Safety

Our trails have been graded according to the trail grade standards set out by NZ Cycle Trails. You can read them here.

We recommend riders are fit and well prepared and we encourage you to know your limits and choose a trail that's suitable for all the riders in your group. Also be aware that there are areas on the trails where there is no cellphone reception. You may want to carry a Personal Locator Beacon in these areas. Check network coverage here.

Riwaka to Woodstock

Ride Length
29 km
Riding Time
1.5-3 hours
3: Intermediate
On Road

Make sure you are fuelled up for this section as there are not many options for re-supply from Riwaka through to Tapawera which is 52km away.

From the information board at Riwaka carefully cross the main highway onto Factory Road and follow the road and cycle trail signs to West Bank Road. With beautiful scenery and quiet roads the ride to Woodstock is an enjoyable section where the kilometres will pass quickly under your wheels. You will be peddling through orchards, hop gardens, farmland and native bush on quiet back-roads, running between the Motueka River and the eastern boundary of Kahurangi National Park.

On a warm summer day choose from the numerous picturesque swimming spots along the Motueka River to have a refreshing paddle.

At the end of the sealed section of West Bank Road cross the bridge over the Motueka River and head a few hundred metres along the Motueka Valley Highway before turning into Dovedale Road.
