The Nelson Tasman Cycle Trails Trust is pleased to announce that a 1.5km extension to Tasman's Great Taste Trail will be open to the public on Saturday 7th December. The Trail continues along the historic railway alignment from the Kohatu Flat Rock Cafe towards Tapawera. As you ride the trail keep an eye out for stone wall remains and culverts built in the 1890s for the Nelson to Glenhope Railway.
The Trust would like to acknowledge Tasman District Council and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment for co-funding trail construction and continued support. We would also like to thank Nelson Forests who volunteered machinery and man-hours to clear the trail alignment and the landowners who have provided permission for the trail to pass through their land. With the support of local landowners, we hope to continue construction early in the new year with the goal of reaching Tapawera in 2020.
