We use the standard grading system for the New Zealand Cycle Trail to communication what level of fitness/ skill is needed to ride each trail.

Coppermine Trail - Advisory - Culling Operation
From 1 - 18 May 2024 a hunting operation targeting deer, goats and pigs will be undertaken in NCC reserves. Nelson City Council, Ngāti Koata and Tasman Pine Forests Ltd (TPFL) have contracted a team of professional hunters, Trap and Trigger Ltd, to carry out a cull of wild goats, pigs and deer across front and back country reserves. They will be using suppressed rifles (with subsonic ammunition in areas closer to residential zones), dogs, thermal imaging, drones, and helicopters to complete their work.
Please note:
• The operation will affect Atmore, Tantragee (including Codgers), Brook Conservation , Eureka Park and Marsden Valley Reserves in the front country; and in the Maitai Water/Conservation Reserve, Roding Water/ Conservation Reserve in the back country. At the same time, operations will be in place on the adjacent Ngāti Koata land on Fringed Hill, Groom Creek area and Codgers.
• These reserves and areas will need to be closed to the public for this period.
• The front country reserves (Atmore, Tantragee, Brook, Eureka and Marsden Valley) and Ngāti Koata whenua will be open to all users during the weekends, from midnight Fridays till midnight Sundays.
• The back country reserves (Maitai and Roding) will be closed for the entire period. However, the Coppermine Trail will be open on the weekends.
• Warning signs and/or barriers will be in place at each entry point
The full Coppermine loop will be open from Saturday 17 May.
