The Regional Land Transport Plan is open for submissions and is your opportunity to provide feedback on land transport in our region. The Trust is pleased to see a focus on walking and cycling (for both recreation and commuting) and the SH6 Rocks Road project.
The Trust is keen to extend the regional trail network. While not in the plan, we have proposed a 'cycle highway' concept that makes cycling a viable active transport option, connecting our communities across the region. Imagine a route from Picton to Murchison (connecting the Link Pathway in Marlborough, the Great Taste Trail and the Heartland Ride from Tapawera to Murchison) and another route from Richmond to the Heaphy Track (linking the Great Taste Trail, existing boat services from Kaiteriteri to Totaranui and the Pohara to Takaka cycleway). Existing cycle trails and routes would provide the core of the Te Tauihu Cycle Highway.
The Trust’s submission is here.
